US to Host Political, Security Dialogue With Vietnam on Wednesday

US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Political-Military Affairs Tina Kaidanow will host her Vietnamese counterpart as the two nations seek to develop closer bilateral ties over security in the Asia-Pacific region, the US Department of State announced in a press release on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Wednesday’s meetings with Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ha Kim Ngoc in Washington, DC, follow a session in Vietnam in January 2015.

"Topics to be discussed include security cooperation and defense trade, maritime security, nonproliferation, peacekeeping, counter-terrorism, human trafficking, demining, and humanitarian issues," the release stated.

The latest session also follows a visit by US President Barack Obama to Vietnam in May, during which the United States agreed to lift a 50-year-old arms embargo against Vietnam.
