Northrop Grumman Plans to Submit Bid to Develop US Nuclear ICBM
01:50 GMT 04.08.2016 (Updated: 07:28 GMT 04.08.2016) Northrop Grumman plans to submit a proposal for the design and maintenance of the US Air Force Ground Based Strategic Deterrent ICBM (GBSD), Northrop Grumman Vice President for Strategic Communications Randy Belote told Sputnik.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On July 29, the US Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center, ICBM Systems Directorate, GBSD Division, issued a request for proposals at FedBizOpps.Gov to defense industry for the development and maintenance of the GBSD.
"Northrop Grumman plans to submit a proposal to the USAF for the technical maturation and risk reduction phase of GBSD as a prime contractor," Belote said on Wednesday.
Northrop Grumman has worked with the US Air Force on the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile System for 60 years, Belote noted.
Boeing will submit a proposal to the US Air Force and Lockheed Martin is likely to do so as well.
