Wahhabi ideology is extremely dangerous and knows no borders as the Internet gave terrorists an opportunity to disseminate their ideas across the globe, Syrian President Bashar Assad told the RT broadcaster in an interview.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – He said that the fastest way to counter the Wahhabi ideology was with the use of ideology based on "real moderate Islam."

“The [Wahhabi] ideology is very dangerous; it knows no borders, no political borders, and the network, the worldwide web has helped those terrorists using fast and inexpensive tools in order to promote their ideology, and they could infiltrate any family anywhere in the world, whether in Europe, in your country, in my country, anywhere,” Assad said.

“If we want to talk about the mid-term and long-term, it's about how much can you upgrade the society, the way the people analyze and think, because this [Wahhabi] ideology can only work when you cannot analyze, when you don't think properly … So, it's about the education, media and policy,” the Syrian president said.

Daesh, considered by the Syrian government to be a Wahhabi group, is notorious for its brutal tactics and extremist ideology. It has been successful it using online propaganda and social media for recruitment purposes, primarily targeting young people around the world.
